Berggenuss literally means “enjoyment” or “treat” the mountain. Innovated Swiss cheesemaker, Franz Renggli, produces Berggenuss in the UNESCO Biosphere in the Entlebuch valley. Operating in a certified mountain cheese zone, he creates a lot of very smooth and creamy semi hard cheeses.
Bergenuss is aged 6 months with an ivory colored, smooth elastic paste. This cow's milk cheese is mild on the nose but surprisingly aromatic on the palate, even a bit spicy with age. It has a pungent, funky flavor and finishes very intensely, with the taste lingering long after.
